TEMPERATURE
March was Geelong’s warmest since 2013, with a mean temperature of 19.5 degrees C, and the 6th warmest on record. The current 30-year mean March temperature is 17.8 C. There were 6 days over 30 degrees (average 4.2 days) and the maximum reached 34.6 C on the 17th. Overnight minimums were much higher than average: 15.0 C compared to 12.3 C (the warmest since 1974). Highest overnight minimum of 20.4 C was measured on the 9th, but at 2 am it was still 31 degrees. There were no nights below 10 C compared to the average 8.5.
RAINFALL
Most of the region received below average rainfall, except for the southern suburbs which averaged over 30 mm. Northern suburbs were closer to 25 mm, compared to the latest 30-year average of 26.4 mm. Most rain fell on the 17th-18th but there were no storms. There was one thunder day on the 3rd, 8 rain days and, apart from several overcast days of drizzle, there were no other noteworthy events.
