TEMPERATURE
Geelong was warmer than the latest 30-year average by around 1.2 degrees C. Daily minimums averaged 10.6 C (mean 10.0 C) and maximums averaged 22.1 (mean 20.4 C).
The hottest day was the 8th when 31.3 C was reached and the lowest minimum recorded was 5.8 C on the 28th.
RAINFALL
“Significantly drier than normal” was Lindsay Smail’s disappointing assessment of the Geelong-Otway Region’s April rainfall. Only 11.2 mm fell at Breakwater and the totals across the urban area ranged from 5 mm at Leopold North to 27 mm at Armstrong Creek.
There were only 8 days of rain and the heaviest fall of 7.2 mm fell at Breakwater on the 15th.
OTHER FEATURES
Four consecutive days of fog blanketed much of the urban area between the 20th and 23rd, and the sun did not appear until the afternoon.
There was one thunder day on the 10th but only 0.4 mm was recorded.
Three days of very strong wind gusts occurred on the 13th, 14th and 15th, with 72 km/h gusts on the 13th.
