RAINFALL
March was a drought month for Geelong with only 6.8mm falling at Mt Duneed and up to around 10mm across the urban area. The Otway and Moorabool catchments were also well below average, but the water supplies are around two-thirds full at 65.7%, which is better than last year’s 49% at the same stage.
TEMPERATURE
“A cooler but generally settled month”, was the summary for March by Geelong Weather Services’ director, Lindsay Smail. Daily minimums averaged 10.8 degrees C (compared to the mean 12.8C) and maximums averaged 22.0C compared to 23.5C. This shows the month was 1.7C below the long-term average. Despite this there were two days over 30 degrees (1st and 12th).
OTHER FEATURES
There was only one very windy day (5th) when wind gusts exceeded 60kph and, once again, the autumn-typical dominance of high presssure ridges contributed to the calm conditions.
