RAINFALL
After a slow start, the month of July ended up as the best rainfall month in the Geelong region since October, 2001. An average of 80mm fell across the urban area, while the Bellarine Peninsula averaged over 100mm and the Otways catchment also received well above average falls. This was due to the fortuitous timing of a series of moist, unstable air masses from the southwest along with an upper level south-bound mass of tropical air from the north. In Geelong, 70mm fell in the last week.
TEMPERATURES
Temperatures were close to the long-term average (average minimum 5.0 compared to the normal 5.1, and maximum 14.4 compared to 13.9). In all, about 0.2 of a degree warmer. Coldest overnight temperature was 0.1 degrees on the 4th and the coldest day was the 29th, with a maximum of 10.8. The warmest day was the 6th with a maximum of 18.3.
