RAINFALL
Average to above average rain fell across most of the region in July. Bureau figures for Geelong were compromised by the gauge malfunction at Breakwater AWS on three days but GWS has patched those figures giving a total of 40.4 mm for the month.
The urban area average was 44 mm compared to the latest 30-year average 43.5 mm. Despite warnings of a dry spring the Indian Ocean dipole shows warmer waters at the moment and this often trumps the drought effects of the El Nino on Geelong.
TEMPERATURE
Geelong was 0.4 degrees colder than the 30-year average for July. The lowest overnight minimum was minus 1.4 C and there were three frosts. The warmest day was 17.2 C on the 24th and the 14th and 26th were the coldest with maximums of only 10.1 C on each day.
OTHER FEATURES
Strong wind days: 1 on the 26th – 65 kph at Breakwater.
Thunder days: 2, but no severe storms.
Thick fog days: 1 on the 8th.
Snow days: 1 at Otways Ridge on the 8th.
