TEMPERATURE
Geelong had a very average July, with daily minimums around 0.5 degrees C cooler than normal and maximums 0.7 C warmer than normal. There were six frosts when minimums fell to 2.0 degrees or lower and the lowest overnight minimum was minus 2.2 C on the 2nd. This was Geelong’s equal third lowest minimum – the coldest since 1994.
The warmest night was the 30th when 10.9 C was the highest minimum since May and the coldest day (the 3rd) only reached 11.6 C.
RAINFALL
The Geelong Urban Area received an average of 40 mm in July on 17 days. The latest 30-year average is 44.5 mm so the month fell into the normal category. On the wettest day (28th) a total of 11.2 mm fell at Breakwater.
In the rest of the region falls ranged from below 50% of normal at Balliang to well over 100% at Apollo Bay.
OTHER FEATURES
There were six frosts, one thunder day (25th) and one very windy day with gusts over 60 kmh on the 29th.
The water supply catchments are about 62% of capacity; this is 10% higher than at the same time last year.
