SUMMARY

Geelong’s temperatures were 0.5C above the 30-year average and rainfall was approximately 6 mm lower than the normal total of 44.6 mm.

TEMPERATURE

Average minimum temperature was 6.4C degrees which was 0.5C above the 30-year figure of 5.9C and the average maximum was 14.6C which also exceeded by 0.5C the 30-year figure of 14.1C.

Geelong’s maximum temperature was 19.6C on the 31st and the coldest day recorded only 10.8C on the 3rd. Overnight minimums showed three consecutive figures of 0.4, 0.5 and 1.7 on the 8th, 9th and 10th. These three days were below 2.0 degrees hence three frosts were recorded.

RAINFALL

Geelong’s average urban area experienced 38 mm at the Breakwater AWS and totalled 36.6 mm for the month. The wettest 24 hour period received 12.8 mm on the 21st. Most of the urban area received lower than the month’s average whereas the western region (from southern suburbs down to especially the Otways) were well above average.

OTHER FEATURES

Three frosts were recorded (see above) and four extremely windy days occurred on the 4th (74 km/h), the 25th (69 km/h), the 27th (63 km/h) and the 28th (70 km/h). There were another three days with high wind gusts which received 56, 57 and 59 km/h winds, but these were not high enough to be regarded as extreme gusts.

Some light hail was received on the 20th and the 28th and snow fell at Lorne in the Otways on the 25th.
