RAINFALL
Above average rainfall in southern Geelong and nearby areas was not quite matched by the northern suburbs or the Otways and Moorabool water catchment regions. In Geelong the average across the urban area was around 44mm – from 51 at Mt Duneed to 33mm at Corio. There were 15 days of recorded rain, from the maximum of 14.6mm recorded on the 11th down to a number of 0.2mm readings from fogs and dews. Most of the rain originated from eastward moving cold fronts associated with low pressure systems to our south. Our water catchments are currently at 54% of capacity.
TEMPERATURES
June temperatures were warmer by nearly one degree. Average daily minimums were the same as the long-term average (5.9 degrees) but maximums were 16.1 compared to 14.3 degrees. The warmer daytime temperatures were boosted on the 8th when June’s warmest ever figure was recorded – 23.4, or 9 degrees above average – compared to the previous record of 21.5, set in 1957.
OTHER FEATURES
Strong winds gusting over 60 kph were experienced on the 13th and 16th, and thunder was heard on the evening of the 13th.
