TEMPERATURE
A very cold June, and in particular a very cold series of mornings, characterized Geelong’s temperatures last month. Daily minimums averaged 5.3 degrees C (latest 30-year mean 6.4 C) and maximums averaging 14.4 C (mean 14.5 C) were recorded during the month, making it the coldest June since 2010 but not creating any significant record.
Top temperature for the month was 17.6 C on the 7th but only 8.9 C on the 28th. Five days fell to 2 C or below and the lowest was 0.5 C on the 28th. Highest minimum was 13.5 C on the 8th.
RAINFALL
Most of the region received above average rainfalls for the month, with Beech Forest recording 234.6 mm and most of urban Geelong over 55 mm. There were 12 rain days and 8 consecutive days resulting in 55 mm of rain including 29 mm at Breakwater AWS in the 24 hours to 9am on the 17th.
OTHER FEATURES
There were 5 days of frosts in Geelong and two very foggy days lasting most of the daylight hours. Four days of very strong wind gusts occurred with 70 km/h recorded at Breakwater AWS on the 17th. There was one thunder day on the 11th but no severe storms.
