RAINFALL
For the eighth month in a row, most of the Geelong region has recorded above average rainfall. Most of the southern suburbs as well as southern areas of the Region, such as the Otways, exceeded the average and the Airport registered 33.4 mm compared to the average 31.9 mm. North and northwest of the urban area however, as well as a large part of the Bellarine Peninsula, fell just below average. Lowest falls were in part of Corio where only 13 mm was recorded. The wettest 24 hours added 24.2 mm at 9 am on the 10th; otherwise the rest of the month lived up to its reputation as our driest.
TEMPERATURE
March was cooler than the long-term normal at Geelong Airport (Mt Duneed) by 0.6 degree C. Daily minimums averaged 12.1 C (mean 12.0 C), and maximums averaged 21.8 C (mean 23.1 C). The warmest day reached 32.0 C on the 7th and there were 3 days over 30 deg C. On the coldest day(s) the maximum reached 16.6 C on the 4th and 18th. The warmest overnight temperature was 18.8 C on the night of the 7th-8th and the coldest (7.2 C) was measured on the 5th-6th.
OTHER FEATURES
It was a fairly typical autumn in Geelong, with very settled conditions and only one windy day with gusts over 60 kph (67 kph on 30th). Several foggy starts and a large number of blue skies were features of the month. There were no storms and no frosts.
