RAINFALL
An almost Australia-wide dry spell during June has resulted in the whole region, from the Otways to the Bellarine Peninsula, receiving well below the average monthly rainfall. This follows the below average falls during May. The region’s water catchments are down to 60.5 % of capacity and the next few weeks may presage a very dry winter.
Urban Geelong generally received 12 mm of rain and most areas had less than 20% of average. It was our sixth driest June on record; the driest was in 1984 when only 5 mm was recorded.
TEMPERATURE
Temperatures were close to normal for June. Minimums averaged 6.4 degrees C (the mean is 6.4 C) and maximums averaged 14.7 C (mean 14.5). The warmest day saw 17.4 C on the 20th.
The coldest day had a maximum of just 12.0 C on the 27th and there were no frosts.
OTHER FEATURES
There were no strong wind gusts (> 60 kmh) and no storms. Neither were there any thunder days, so June was a very calm month overall, albeit dry. There were several mists and fogs.
