RAINFALL
Once again below average rainfall fell in the Geelong region, according to GWS Manager Lindsay Smail, but there were wide variations, from 17 mm at Shelford to 48 mm at Teesdale only 6 kilometres away. The major reason for the differences was the nature of the thunderstorms experienced on the 26th. On that day Shelford received only 9 mm from the storm while Teesdale got 32 mm. Similarly Manifold Heights registered 35 mm on that day while the rest of Geelong averaged 15-20 mm. The urban area averaged 33 mm for the month.
TEMPERATURE
Average maximum for the month was 23.6 degrees, or about half a degree cooler than normal. The average minimum was 12.5 degrees, a full degree lower than normal. In the second half of the month the temperature only rose above 25 on one occasion.
