RAINFALL
Another good rainfall month has seen average to above average falls right across the region. Breakwater (49.6 mm), West Barwon Dam (155 mm), Lara (51 mm) and most other places were above their July average.
Geelong has now had above its normal winter rainfall with still another month to go. This result was a surprise to the Bureau of Meteorology which predicted only a 35% chance of the months May to July having average totals. Geelong recorded 125% of its normal during this period. For the rest of winter-spring the outlook is positive and the catchments are at a healthy 69.2% of capacity.
TEMPERATURES
July overall was warmer than average by about 1.5 degrees C. Daily minimums averaged 7.1 degrees (long-term average 5.4) and maximums 15.2 degrees C (long-term average 13.9). The warmest day was the 18th with a maximum temperature of 21.8 degrees C. This was Geelong’s warmest July day since 1975 (23.0 degrees C on 30/7/75).
There were 4 frosts on 4 successive days (9th to 12th), with 0.2 degrees C being the lowest minimum on the 10th.
